2026 Artist Statement

My art centers on light, texture, and everyday insights, shaped by Midwest seasons. Each painting reflects my current focus, building from childhood sketches of Wisconsin woods and Iowa fields to a mix of plein air decisions and studio development. I aim to capture a scene's core feeling—balance in color and form—using pastels and oils for their distinct light and texture.

I trained with master pastelist David Garrison, shifting to oils for plein air work, learning from mentors like Tom Nachreiner and Joe Paquet. Daily challenges strengthen my commitment; my art connects to my writing in romance, mystery, and family stories, sharing Iowa settings and themes of endurance.
